Lahore, the cultural hub of Pakistan reflects the Mughal architecture. The advent of Mughals took place in the 14th century and ruled the subcontinent for nearly 300 years, leaving thousands of monuments, forts and palaces which are the architectural wonders of their time.
Sufism has also greatly influenced this part of the world in its reign. It provided a way to reconcile some of the religious doctrines of the earlier cultural and religious systems of Hindu, Buddhist, Judaic, Christian, Manichean and Zoroastrian societies that had existed prior to the victory of the Islamic conquerors. Despite preaching Islam, they also made a tremendous contribution in all aspects of human culture including painting, decoration, the industrial arts, dance and music, astronomy and mathematics. In Pakistan, Every year “URS” (Death Anniversary of the saints) are celebrated regularly - Qawwali is a prominent characteristic of devotional music used at the shrines of Sufis and Saints as a tribute to their greatness.
